Use internet sources to develop an essay about Andrew Jackson.
Address the following question in your writing. Describe him as a person. What types of habits did he have? What made him angry? What did he do before he became president? Describe him as a leader. Did he make good decisions? Did he make good decision for all people? Did Jackson treat everyone fairly? Describe the major decisions Jackson made as president and determine whether he was a good president or a bad president. Make sure you explain why you came to that conclusion. Here are a few places to start exploring Mr. Jackson. http://www.shmoop.com/jackson-era/primary-sources.html http://www.pbs.org/kcet/andrewjackson/edu/primaryresources.html http://americanhistory.si.edu/presidency/4b1.html http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/andrewjackson Conflict is a common occurence in the Middle East. Choose one of the two topics to explain concerning early commerce and the new constitution.
Explain Alexander Hamilton's economic plan. What was it? What was good about it? What was bad about it? or Explain the two ways to interpret the constitution. Describe each and tell me which you think is best and why. Monday feelings of excitement turn quickly to feelings of terror and horror when two bombs exploded at the end of the Boston Marathon. Since that time law enforcement has been working to identify suspects and see that they are apprehended. This morning it appears that two suspects have been identified, and currently one suspect is on the run. They have been in the U.S. for some time, but are from the Russian republic Chechyna orginally. Consider and comment on the following questions. Are you concerned that such bombings will rise in the future? Are you willing to give up personal freedoms to be safe? There maybe international ties to this bombing. How can such situations be stopped without hindering freedom? "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country."
Those words may be the most famous words President John F. Kennedy ever spoke in public. They certainly are the only words I can recite from his 1961 inaugural address. Our nation and world would face some challenges in the years that would follow these now famous words including mourning the death of the man who said them. Many of those challenges have given way to new ones over the years. Some have been resolved while others have not. Success was acheived in some areas yet failure in others. However; those twenty two words in President Kennedy's speech inspired a nation with hope, but requested something of a nation that has gone overlooked within the past fifty-two years. You see the President asked every American to contribute to building a great nation. He founded the Peace Corp on March 1st, 1961 to provide young people opporuntiies to serve and fulfill the request he made to find out how each one of us could serve our country. Here is a link to President Kennedy's address if you would like to read in its complete form. http://www.bartleby.com/124/pres56.html So I have some questions for you to respond to. Should we seek to be served by our country or should we find out ways to help our country? How can students like yourself volunteer to make our country better? Is it important we do so or not? Tell me why. Sakichi Toyoda, the founder of what would become the Toyota
automotive company, was born on this day in 1867. Toyota has grown to be one of the largest car companies in the world. However it has not always been that way. Toyota for much of the last half of the 20th century was considered a company inferior to the big three automakers of the U.S. Ford, Chrysler, and GM were the forces that ruled the auto world. No place was this more true than in NASCAR. Junior Johnson, Richard Petty, and Dale Earnhardt would have never considered driving a Toyota in the Daytona 500. There are several reasons for this. First, Toyota did not have a car capable of competing in NASCAR. Secondly, rules were such that Toyota would not have been allowed to compete in NASCAR. Finally, Toyota was a foreign car company, and NASCAR was a southern automotive sport that was distinctly American. You couldn’t have a foreign car competing in a NASCAR. It was un-American. Then it happened. Toyota entered NASCAR’s lesser racing divisions starting in 2000, and the Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR’ s major racing series, in 2006- 2007. Since the beginning of the 21st century many consider Toyota an American car company, as much as a Japanese car company, because of plants they have on American soil. Toyota passed U.S. automaker GM in 2008 as the world’s largest automaker. Toyota has experienced difficulty as well. Recent recalls have created questions about Toyota quality. Toyota has suffered financial struggles like many car companies because of poor economic conditions. However it seems Toyota has risen to the top of the auto industry. Is Toyota for real? Post your comments to the following questions. Do you consider Toyota to be one of the U.S. automakers or simply a foreign car company competing in the U.S.? Where would you rank Toyota in a list of the top five auto makers in the world? Why? Why do you think NASCAR opened the Sprint Cup door to Toyota in 2006? |
